Bärloch quarry
Our quarry is located above Buechen in the canton of St. Gallen and is nestled in the beautiful landscape above the Bay of Rorschach. It taps into a large sandstone deposit that will provide material for many generations to come. We look after and cherish the quarry with great appreciation for the material it gives us.
STONE BREAK KREIENWALD ABOVE THE BODENSEE
The Bärlocher family has been running the historic quarry and stonemasonry business in the Kreienwald forest since 1890. We are committed to natural and sustainable management. Safeguarding the site is just as important to us as ecological enhancement. In recent years, we have planted around 4,000 trees to reforest the area around the quarry. Heavy construction machinery moves around the quarry site. Rorschach sandstone and other natural stones are worked in the quarry. And in our offices, too, everything revolves around natural stone.
Professional dismantling
Using modern drilling technology and diamond wire saws, and with the help of an experienced team, the Rorschach sandstone is quarried carefully and in defined stages. First, precise drill holes are drilled. The diamond wire is pulled through the drill holes and set in rapid rotation by a drive motor, which cuts the stone. We need a cutting area of around 100 square meters for one extraction stage. Bärlocher extracts and processes an average of 250 cubic meters of rock per week.
Heavy chunks
The quarried stone blocks weigh around 600 tons and measure approximately 8 × 12 × 3 meters. Heavy construction machinery sorts the material, takes it to the quarry for further processing and loads it onto transporters.

Almost 100% recovery
Bärlocher recycles almost all of the material extracted from the quarry. Products such as stone and gravel baskets make a significant contribution to this. Chippings and gravel from the quarry can be used to create ruderal areas or for the renaturation of riverbanks and lakeshores
